Electromagnetic actuators can be found in many mechatronic systems. No matter whether the electromagnetic actuator is used for spring-applied brakes, for proportional valves in hydraulic or pneumatic applications, as an injector for dosing fuel or as a relay for switching voltages and currents. The physics of the magnetic circuit is always the same.
Therefore, magnetic measuring and testing methods can be applied equally to all electromagnets. By analysing the Psi(I) characteristic curve, the system-inherent sensory properties of ferromagnetic materials can be used to analyse the switching behaviour, positions and forces of the magnetic system. Even completely encapsulated magnet systems can be analysed in this way.
We would like to thank the editors of Elektronik Praxis for the opportunity to present the advantages of magnetic measuring and testing technology for magnetic relays and contactors.
